Mysterious clicking noise coming from computer

does it go away when you load things from it too?

my ext hd is like that. Makes a little constant noise until there is some load

I defragged twice in a row and it's seems to have stopped now.

Solved. I finally was able to hear the clicking noise with the case open and thankfully it was just a fan. I took the fan out and cleaned it and so far the clicking has stopped. I'm so happy it wasn't one of the hard drives

i have a fan that sounds like a hard drive going nutty. prod your fans and see if it's any one of them..

I solved it. It was a fan. Thanks for the advice but I was one step ahead of you
