Getting a gun in Vermont.
No matter how you look at it a gun can be traced back to you at ome point or another.
The gun at one point was sold legally and from there some guy sold it to another and so on. Somewhere in there someone knows who they sold it to and it can be tracked that way. Once a gun is used in a crime the last known owner of that weapon is tracked down. You being the owner of that weapon with no bill of sale saying you no longer own it makes you responsible fo letting that person use your gun on a murderous rampage and will face some sort of legal aspect from it.

No, I've had the paperwork in my desk for a couple months now. The problem is finding legitimate character references. You need 5 people that can attest to your moral character AND they need to live in your area AND they can't be related to you. Everyone I know that's not related to me lives outside of my county. I don't really want to go knock on my neighbor's door that I don't know very well and be like "Hey, want to sign my pistol permit application?"
What also sucks is that you have to fill out the entire application 3 times. They don't let you just make one and then make 2 copies, all 3 copies have to be original, which means getting everyone to fill out their info 3 times, having your character references fill it out 3 times, ect. It's annoying.

Of course Vermont's gun laws are lax. It's a state filled with homosexuals who are more concerned with their rainbow flags. Everyone else is too busy sucking maple syrup from trees to care about guns.

i know what you're saying though. im gonna try to get mine this summer. i can get five people to do that easily.
I know, but rifles are not practical for indoor ranges. I feel it takes more skill to shoot a pistol anyway (depending on range by comparison). On my last rifle qualification I was able to hit the target at 500 yards 8 out of 10 times with nothing but the iron sights. I qualified expert. With the pistol I qualified sharpshooter.
