Nice try.
I've got the Civic listed on Craigslist for sale and I got a voicemail earlier about a guy wanting to come check out the car. So I call him back and he said he wanted to talk to his wife first then call me back.
So he calls me back and asks if I would accept a personal check. He said it would be from the "Armed Forces" bank so I kinda thought it over and told him I would take it under a couple conditions.
I told him that I would create a document stating that I would hold the title until the check cleared. At that point I would give him the title. And I would also be pulling my plates from it when giving him the car.
"That sounds good. Let me check with my wife."
(That was nearly 2 hours ago) I'm thinking scam. hfawk: Nice try.

It wasn't the bank I was questioning. I don't know the guy and he doesn't know me. I've bought and sold a ton of cars and even if it was a well known bank (Wachovia, Bank of America, etc)....that person wouldn't get the title till the check cleared.

I don't know, I guess I got used to dealing with local CL'ers and this is the norm for me where they take forever to respond or get back to whatever I'm selling. I know the bank is legit as my sister uses the same bank (military family) so I was thinking that you put the bank in quotation as if it was a made up bank.

un-Touch'd krew
I can put a non titled car on a trailer and take it home.
Then I can strip it and have the parts sold.
All before the check either bounces or clears...doesn't matter to me
You hold the car and title until the check clears 100% and all funds are verified in your account.
