First Xbox 360 Elite pics?
I get the feeling by not making the HD-DVD drive standard microsoft is digging their grave. They will be capped by the 9gb dual-layer dvd capability. I know you can stuff a lot of information in 9gb but in the future they're going to run out of space and who wants to spring $120-$200 to play the latest game? It's going to go the way of Nintendo's Disc Drive

h:Because of the installation base of close to 11M consoles that don't have the HD-DVD standard, MS can't just start putting games on that format.
Release a Halo3 HD-DVD version, and you'll ignite riots.
now they'll have consoles that are HD-DVD enabled ... consoles without.
Just like the Genesis ... some had the SegaCD ... some had the 32X ... etc. Sega ended up developing 3 types of games for 1 console, completely tearing apart their own customer base.
oh, he's saying currently, there's no HD-DVD.

Oh absolutely. The Xbox360 is turning into a modern day Sega Genesis with all the major hardware upgrades.

HD DVD movie data is passed though the 360. I don't see why game data couldn't do the same thing. Since it's USB2, you can theoretically hit a 480Mb stream of data.
With a system software upgrade, I'm guessing sure ... why not?
The only stopping point would be the small HDD (20gbs). If you'd need a huge chunk of that allocated for load buffering.
But, MS said they wouldn't make an HD-DVD game.

Well think about it, 360 Premium is at 400 bucks + Tax. HD-DVD drive is $200 + tax. That puts it at 600 Integrated = Cost of PS3. Additionally if you were to add 120 GB hard drive + HDMI out the price will still be at 600 integrated if they were going to take a larger loss.
They were trying to be competitive with the price because we all know if HD-DVD was standard then their price would be the same as the PS3. Problem is now HD-DVD is not winning the format war which they could have been if the 360 had it from the beginning. Since they aren't winning the format war I wouldn't expect anyone to be purchasing any HD-DVD's and them phasing it out like they did BETA.
