h: But honestly I can see microsoft getting capped at the 9gb barrier.

h: Unfortunately, that whole multi-add-on and multi-sku thing totally messed up their userbase. How many Sega CD systems ended up being released alone? I remember like 4, and that's excluding 32X and all that other junk...Dunno. I don't know if the XBox360 will have the staying power needed to keep up with the PS3. Ever pay attention to the evolution of XBox graphics? Go compare Mechwarrior to Mechwarrior2. There's a noticable improvement, but nothing outrageous. Halo 2 really improved on Halo, but that's cause of their really crafty use of variable normal and bump mapping to switch between gameplay and cinematic.
[rant] The Xbox and Xbox 360 scaler chips for video SUCK. Ever notice the motion blur in Gears of War on a 720p display? It's got a two-pronged use: first, it looks cinematic, secondly it hides the failure of the crappy scaling chip. If you rotate the screen at just the right speed, you can see that the game isn't rendering in 720p, but is actually scaling up from some interlaced resolution. They did the same crap on the Xbox1 (read: Halo 2 and 90% of the 480p compatable games) with only very few games doing real 480p (team Ninja games and Timesplitters Future Perfect, for example) [/rant]
Now go compare some first gen release PS2 titles with the swan songs of the system. Metal Gear Solid 3, Okami, God of War 2 are graphically fantastic, and that was made on a system with only 4MB of embedded video ram. If current release titles look as good as they do now, I'm really, really excited about the future of the PS3.
That being said, the only selling points of a Xbox 360 to me are the price, Blue Dragon, and Halo 3. Otherwise, I'm not that interested... And I doubt I'll get a 360 if the price is equal to a PS3.

the only saving grace for the Xbox 1 was Halo. Everything on a PS2 smoked it.
for everyone saying "I'm going to get one", this system will be $599.99 ... same as a PS3.
Would you get an Xbox360 for:
Halo 3
Gears of War
or a PS3 for:
Final Fantasy 13
Gran Turismo HD
Grand Theft Auto
Metal Gear Solid
by MS raising their price, they just eliminated a huge competitive advantage.
I really think the only reason they're doing this is to gain back the next gen DVD market from Sony. I don't believe the 360 will have the console library to compete when the 360 Elite hits the shelves.

thats true. it wouldn't make sense to have HD-DVD and DVD games either. It's like trying to sell 2 different markets with one console.

I am always a big Playstation fan, having owned both PS1 and PS2, but I couldn't justify the price of the PS3 at the moment. Im sure I'll pick one up sometime in the future.
I did however pick up the 360 core with most of the add ons for a good price. I've been pretty happy with the games so far (Call of Duty, Gears of War, R6: Vegas...). I was never a xbox fan, but this system has changed my thoughts on it. Hopefully they'll be able to continue bring good games out even when the PS3 is taking off.
