Liechtenstein invaded!!
Yes, plans were drawn up...but Hitler never wanted to invade, especially after France fell and Operation Barbarossa began, and it was the correct strategic move for them. Had the Battle of Britain been won by the Nazis and the eventual land invasion successful, or had the Nazis never invaded Russia, Switzerland probably would have been invaded. But invading Switzlerand would have required their best mountain troops, which they needed for Russia and possibly Britain. Plus, like I said, Switzerland did a lot for the German wartime economy. And by 1941/1942, they had built very formidable mountain defenses.
ummm risk? fucking risk? we are talking about a nation that took on France, England, and Russia at the same in the air, land, and at sea at a point when they werent allowed to have a military. not to mention they began the slaughter of millions of people. like i said they were military geniuses but at the end of the day the downfall was hitler and he would have had no qualms about sending thousands of his troops to death if he wanted the swiss...they just werent worth anything
the snipers were not the main cause for not invading...the swiss geography was not right nor was there anything of worth

Read up on your history. They didn't want to take the risk of invading through them. Just about every swiss person had a rifle and marksmanship was the national past time. Switzerland was ready to defend themselves once the war started. Sure germany would of won had they really try to invade them but they would of lost way too many people than it would of been worth. Do some googleing.
you are kidding right? the swiss geography location was worth TOO much they needed those train to work and they did not want to risk it. Also the first part of your post is a reason why they didnt invade the swiss they were just too busy taking over the hardest countries...
all im trying to point out here is the underlying reason germany largely left the swiss alone was because they were not as large a threat as russia, france, or the UK. and they had financial dealings with the swiss that were very important
im in agreeance with everything except "the snipers in the alps saved switzerland"
sorry maybe i didnt clearly state what i was saying...
