I don't care who you are or what situation you're in, as a server you never ask for a tip, it's just not professional. If they screwed you, then focus your attention on other party's next time they come in.

Then they either A) Get the hint B) Never come back C) Won't trouble you much

Worse than that, is someone keeping change expecting a tip. I was at a restaurant with my parents, and we had a drink at the bar while waiting for our table. It was $18 for the drinks, my dad gave the guy a $20...he didn't bring any change back. He was going to get the rest in a tip, but he kept it like he was entitled to it. My dad asked him where the change was, and he said "it was only like 2 bucks." He didn't get a tip.

I worked in the bar and food service industry for a long time and not once have I asked for a tip. I don't care if I gave stellar service and got stiffed I just bit my tongue and remembered the customer next time they came in.

If she had done that to me I would have simply told her that was left was in direct proportion to the service we felt we recieved and if she wants more then next time the service has to be one step better. Of course I also would have pointed out that she would not get that chance because I would not be returning and that she needs to get her manager that very moment.

I hate the way tips work now, waitstaff assumes that simply by being there you owe them a gratuity. I hate like hell stiffing a waiter or waitress but I have done it more than a few times due to very poor service.

I had a guy at Sonic ask if I wanted the "pocket change." I was going to let him have it until he asked. :ugh:

OT, I hate when I pay for something like a haircut or a drink and the amount comes out to an even $5...they give me back a $5 bill as change, and I have no ones to give as a tip..so I have to ask for change. h:

call and ask to speak to the manager in the morning

It's straight up bullshit. If you can come in then go in and point out the bitch. I wouldn't come back again given that situation.

Just this past weekend me and some friends went to a restaurant. Only saw the waitress 3 times. After being seated for like 15 minutes she came up and asked us what we wanted for drinks, then 20 minutes later she bought us our drinks. Then we didnt see her again until she brought us the check. Then didnt even come back to get the payment. I wanted to leave her with a $2 tip (bill came to 55.64) but the people i was with eat there alot and wanted to leave a better tip.

Now i went to red lobster yesterday and our server dude was pretty good; so i left him with 15%. But i CANT STAND places that add the tip in the check. I had a IHOP do that to us and we left cus that means regardless of what type of service we get, the waitress is still getting at least 15%. Needless to say we wont be going back to that iHOP anymore.

Poor service = no tip in my book. I also will not pay a forced tip on a large party (over 6 people 18% gratuity included) it only invites mediocre service. I have disputed those charges and not had to pay them. If a restaurant wants to fight me I ask for seperate checks and then pay them all as one in the end. Either way I am not leaving a forced gratuity.

I find that leaving a really small tip (say $0.25) is much better than leaving NO tip... it lets them know you remembered the tip and that's what you thought of their service...
