Best place to live?
Population: 226,000
Typical single-family home: $500,000
Est. property taxes: $2,200
Pros: Vibrant community with ample opportunities for work and play
Cons: Brutal summers
Forget its reputation as a winter retreat for well-off, golf-obsessed retirees. Scottsdale offers year-round residents a wealth of job opportunities, great schools and recreation that doesn't end at the 18th hole. There's running along the Arizona Canal or through the Greenbelt, a 13-mile network of paths and parks that doubles as the city's floodplain on those rare days that rain falls. If you can't stand the heat, you won't like Scottsdale in the summer. But locals learn how to handle 100°-plus temps.
One thing about scottsdale, the 14-16 yr olds, look 21 :noes: Not that I would know....

Just not So Cal if you want to buy and you're in the lower-middle working class. Be prepared to pay nearly $1mil for what you'd pay <$500K for in the midwest or most anywhere other than Southern CA. Rent SUCKS here too unless you have a kick ass job and phenomenal credit.

Fairfield, CT made the list? :wtf: it's expensive as hell to live there, and in fact people are moving out because they can't afford, among other things, the property taxes, which continue to go up..
i would also not describe it as low stress given what surrounds the town, and where you'd likely have to work, given what you'd need to make to be able to afford living there..
my friend also just moved back up from close to Cary, NC.. and i thought it was interesting what he had to say:
i hate these lists.

- its nice, but i disagree with that 10 best thing...
- its out grown its infrastructure so fast...
- constantly bad traffic
- the thing that is really good about Cary is that its on teh doorstep of a huge job market
