On the 4runners watch for rust around the rear tailgate area by the window. It's a real PITA to fix that rear window, but a great feature when it's working.

Also, check the main seal closely. Expensive to fix. Easy to check though on a truck that is siting that high....

Rear sag. make sure it's sitting level. Rear springs are weak on those trucks.

Bumper rust through, easy fix though.

Just threw out a full shop manual for one that I forgot to give with my 4runner when I sold it.

Good lord the 4runners are stout off-road.

I'm a little skeptical of buying a high mileage 4Runner now after reading up on the 2nd gen and it's issues with the head gasket. I WANT something with more room, but since the EK died yesterday....I would settle for another DA if I have to.
