Default ::work rant:: Did I make the wrong move in accepting the promotion?

Now that I'm in my new role I'm kind of regretting accepting it in the first place. I work under the "Sr." role, so he kind of has say so of what I should be doing. I pretty much report to him.

It just seems as though I get all the hard work and I'm getting stressed out. His job every day pretty much is in the air. Never working on one thing in particular, just development crap. I'm still transitioning all my Procurement/Asset Management duties over to the person who filled my old job as well. :hsughr:

Before working for him, we were pretty cool. Now, I'm starting to see a totally different side that annoys the hell out of me. He takes his work too seriously, and I'm not like that. When I get home, I throw the Blackberry on the charger and relax. He told me that he's generally on a schedule when he gets home. "I spend the 2 hours with my wife and son. Usually put him to bed, then spend an hour with the wife. After that, it's a few hours to myself." And with that time, he's actually working from home.

This morning "Hey check this out, I developed this new process that I worked on all weekend."

:doh:Get a life man!

He's like a freegn corporate robot.

I just hate being stressed all the time. We're severely understaffed and thats the way its always been. 6 years now I've been with this company, I'm starting to think I should look elsewhere.

Hear that. When I leave the office.. I leave the office. There's people here that take things WAY too seriously. Life's too short IMO.. and this is my job... not my career.

You should take it serious. ( maybe not that serious like him ) but, thats where you get your bread and butter from. When I get home I take my blackberry and leave it on the computer desk. If it goes off the whole table shakes and thats how im alerted. I definitely dont have a schedule.
My life is more important than my work but I do take my work serious.

my company's hiring and you're more than welcome to check it out. We have different locations now.

unfortunately it's easier said than done. the higher you move up the ladder, the more your work interferes with your regular life.

Work just shouldn't be this stressful. It makes it 100x worse that the person I work under is a robot who eats sleeps and shits work. I feel sorry for his family. I'm sure he has a spreadsheet somewhere that breaks down his sex life with his wife.

qft

which is why i dont want to find myself in that kind of position. not b/c im incompetent or lazy, but i value other things far more than money or corporate life

but yeah, try to stick it out for a few months and see how things go. if they dont get better, see if you can find something else. good luck, man. hang in there :hs:
