Default Disappointed (with cliffs)

Well my moms surgery went very well and im happy about the care she was getting at the hospital where the surgery was preformed. After only 2 days they started bothering her about where she would like to be moved for her PT. Well she was on morphine and basicly talked into going to the rehab hospital which we were not even informed about. Representitives from the rehab hospital basicly solicit their hospital directly to the patient while they are in the hospital (whos bed is considered prime realestate and who also gets a kick back from the rehab hospital if that patient ends up there) Well, had we (my family) known all this we would have mediated the situation for her. Instead they sent their reps in only when we werent there to persuade my mother into signing off on the transfer. So she gets moved friday and has had the most horrible care i have ever seen for someone who has been through a major surgery. Its a laundry list of problems and issues she is having that aren't being addressed. For one a nurse said in her report that my Grandmother was disturbing my mother (who was throwing up due interaction with medication that she said would make her sick (vicoden sp?) we had a huge run in with this nurse. now thats solved. Second, they put her in a wheel chair that was about 4 inches too narrow for her hips (yes the things that were just REPLACED!) and she was being squeezed. you could litteraly feel the heat on the outside panel of the chair from the inflamation. It took 24 hours of bitching to get a sufficent chair. There are other things, smaller but they are adding up to cause problems. When she asks to have a shower the wont give it to her, when she asks for ice packs i witnessed last night it taking 20 min to give them to her. Its just sad cause my mom is starting to lose her spirit and she is alone in there when we arent there to visit. Its just disappointing to me. I cant wait till she is out of there and at home with us.

cliffs: mom has surgery, tricked into being transfered, getting shitty care and has a douce bag nurse who accused my grandmother of disturbing my mother.

I am pretty sure you could've cancelled that contract by proving that she was under medication at the time of the signaturr and wasnt able to make a rationnal decision at the time of the signing.
I guess now it's too late, i didnt even know they had 2 type of hospitals, 1 for the surgery and the other for the rehab??
when is she getting out of there?

Man that's bullshit. I hope she heals soon. Maybe you could talk to a lawyer? There has to be something you can do to stop or slow down these scammers.

Does an rehab hospital have all the emenities and equipment in case of an emergency? seams like good business to me h: except the whole getting screwed thing...

yeah, if i was an investor and had no morals i would take advantage of the $$ to be made in this situation. its all covered by health care. My dad made a good point last night, I would have paid more for better care at this point.

oh it all adds up alright, hospital gets $$ and a bed to put someone else in. Ins company pays less for her care and rehab gets paid by the ins company. Screwing the customer...

I should also mention that she had a bi-lateral hip replacement not just one replaced. basicly she cannot stand up without help for the first 2 weeks or she could dislocate them. with only 1 done you can support your weight on the other leg.

no i mean give the patients proper service... I wonder if something like that could work here. I dont really see why not  apart from the fact that all the hospital stays are free. I

wonder if alot of people would be ready to pay say 200$ a night for post surgery rehab in a private room, surounded by competant nurses and doctors. instead of staying at the hospital in semi to public rooms, althogh they are surrounded by competant people.

i would pay more. without a doubt. We have to stay on top of every issue we see untill it is resolved. we should be more concerned with her recovery and basic necessities should be a given not a privilage like this only 1 shower every two days bull shit and making her use a bed pan when she should be helped to the bathroom. she can walk very slowly but its easier for the staff just to give her a bed pan.
