Default For the HAN home owners

So, on my (paid)vacation next week I'm going to paint the living room and hallway and prep the kitchen/dining room. The roomie's aunt is the one supplying paint, etc. We were discussing the kitchen and she mentioned that you can paint countertops... has anyone done this? And if so, how does it fair through normal use?

They don't want to replace anything (carpet, flooring, counter tops) since the house is not ready to sell anytime soon.

Fairs ok just a bitch when they get older and you use any kind of degreaser or cleaner on them. the paint gets soft and wipes off partially.

Oh I didn't see the countertops mention I thought you meant just the cupboards.

No do not paint the countertops...bad juju. Paint will not work on countertops at all it will flake off with the use of knives or other objects on the countertop. The moisture used on and around the countertops will not help either.

Paint never truly solidifies so it is not adviseable on food prep surfaces at all.

Go to Home depot and check out their prefab countertops. The price really isn't that bad and if they are planning to sell she should know that the three major rooms that count are kitchen, living room and master bath. the rest can be skimmed on but these three rooms can make or break the entire sale.

Not really a good idea to paint countertops. If you decide to try it use a paint that is NSF approved for food contact surfaces. You will find yourself having to repaint them a lot, there's more wear and tear on counters than you think until you put an easily scuffed surface on them.

BTW I was a kitchen & bath remodelor for 14 years, with my own company, EYEPLAY RENOVATIONS.

john, they will remodel when the time comes to sell. to be frank, their father passed away but the mother is still alive just in a nursing home. they don't want to sell since one of the estate owners is still alive. we are living here to keep the homeowner's ins in effect.

i don't think i'll take the time to paint them. i have a feeling i'll be doing most of this myself because my roommate is definately not jumping on the paint train anytime soon.
