My stepdad had two over 15 yrs ago, and had open heart surgery over 10 yrs ago. He's 72 now, and he's pretty healthy in appearance (beside his hands shaking all the time). I constantly worry that he could have another one, a final one. My mom, would be a basket case if something happened to him.

depends on what part of his heart he had the attack. also what caused it. my dad had one in the bundle branch. so he throws pvcs alot. cant feel them but i could see them on his monitor. he has had 2 stents put in. my father had his heart attack at work and a coworker found him at his desk.. we work or worked in the same hospital. he recently retired. he got very lucky. most people do recover well. your heart will never recover to your preheart attack condition. there are alot of drugs and therapy used today. diet, exercise, lifestyle and family hx are all important.
My grandpa had heart attacks a few years ago.
He had 3 attacks before he decided to make an appointment at a Dr. He's the old WWII Polish POW, tough as fuckin nails, but doesnt think all the time.
Supposedly he had something like 3 arteries with 75% clogged and one that was nearly 100%. Thats what you get for eating a pound of bacon for breakfast everyday.

oh man. I hope all goes well.
Someone in the office just had the exact same thing happen. He was actually back at work within 4 days. He's put on a bunch of meds and is forced to watch his meals ... but otherwise, he said "I've never felt better in my life"

With modern medicine, and as long as your father follows the doctors recommendations verbatim, he'll be just fine. It's tough watching your own father going through stuff like that though
