Default fantastic! i screwed myself! v.iPod

so, i went against my own advice and picked up an iPod mini for my fiancee for her bday last june. now, less than a year later, the stupid thing is fucking up.

on a full battery, it'll play for a hour, give a low battery warning, and shut down.

it'll do this about three times, and then shut down for good. nice.

so i'll charge the thing for another 4 hours, and then the whole process repeats. :goodjob:

any of you ipod fanatics experience this shit? any solutions? or do i have to take it in the ass and buy a new battery. from what i hear, apple support will be completely useless, as i'll have to pay for service.

the battery on these are a known joke ... my 20gb model drains to empty in under 60 minutes.

I haven't had any issues with my 2gb Nano yet. I've had the thing on for 9 hours straight with no issues.

i'm gonna guess that's because it's solid-state storage, and the thing is still new. my brother is actually displeased with the battery life on his nano. he's had it for 3 months, and he thinks it's not lasting like it should.

the funny thing is, the iPod is so highly revered, yet i constantly hear about these things crapping out.

I believe that for the service fee they give you a new iPod.

From Apple's website

What is the iPod Battery Replacement Program?
If your iPod requires service only because the battery’s ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, Apple will replace your iPod for a service fee of $59, plus $6.95 shipping. Be sure to follow all of the battery troubleshooting steps before submitting your iPod for battery replacement.
I am going to do this relatively soon since the battery life on my 3G iPod is pretty toast.

yeah, that's a freakin' scam. the thing isn't even a year old. there's no reason i should have to pay $70 to have it replaced.

if there's nothing i can do in its current state, i at least have this option:
http://ipodminibattery.com/

i'm just wondering if there's some way to reset the device or something, and have it recognize that the battery isn't actually completely dead. i mean, it dies because of "low battery", but will still play for another hour, before it does it again, and again once more..

If you're over the 1 year warranty, I believe Apple charges $75 to replace the battery.

Yea, the battery life on my Nano is rediculous. 2.5 Hours is the MOST a full charge has gotten me. And that is just listening to music and not fucking around with the games or anything. I will never buy another Apple Product.
