computer peeps
so got back home after a week of not being here, looks at the alarm clock and apparently the power ent out cause of the strong winds... anywais, now my PC wont turn on, the light of the network cable is on but the PC it self wont come on... would it be the power supply?
if it is the power supply, are they all the same? i have an old PC that the power supply works... can i just put that one in?

much older power supplies are different, but anything with the last 5 years should be fine. also be sure the power output will be enough. if your current one is 250w, make sure your new one is at least that.

how much should a power supply cost?
look for a sticker on the power supply, you hould see a chart with volt and amp values on it, your new power supply should have the same voltages, if not youll prob have to play around with the jumpers on the motherboard so you can get the voltage right so it doesnt fry the processor
Make sure the power output does not exceed that of the old power supply
also if lightning struck a pole while you were gone and you didnt have a surge protector you may have fried the power supply and possibly the motherboard and processor if the voltage was strong enough
you may also want to try to make sure a breaker isnt flipped or as a previous poster said reset the surge protector

also sounds stupid but plug the comp into another socket of the surge protector, usually when volts get high enough itll fry a single outlet, not all of them
Try plugging the comp directly into the wall before pulling power supply and see if that works.

and the advise you gave was a good point, wander why i didnt think of that
1) What type of PC is this
2) Are you pressing the power button in COMPLETELY...I know that sounds stupid but i dont know how many people break the power buttons and not know it and swear there PC doesnt start up.
3) I also say....try unplugging all the peripherals and only leave power to the board....Ive had weird shit like that happen to me before.....CD rom went and for some reason it didnt let me PC boot up...Odd yes....Is it electronics...Yes
4) How good are you with a voltmeter
