On my 1.73 centrino Toshiba notebook, it takes ~30 seconds to boot.

On my 1.2 centrino ultra low voltage sony vaio (the one im presently on) it takes ~45 seconds.

Both machines run xp and 1 gig of ram.

And what would you consider fancy? :eh: That's a speed machine.

I think my Dell is 2.3GHz, 512MB of RAM. I don't know about boot time, I restart it once a week and that's it. h:

50sec. :ugh:
XP Pro
3.0Ghz P4
1GB PC3200

The BIOS takes a while, then there's an extra screen that show my HDD configuration (running 2 120GB drives in RAID0).

I'm getting ready to upgrade hard drives (2 320GB drives) and do a reinstall, no RAID0 this time. I'll see how it is, then.

Never realized it took that long 'cause the first thing I do when I wake up every morning is power up, then go to the bathroom. (too loud to leave on all night)

Oh yeah...and if I happen to have a DVD in the drive, the splash screen takes FOREVER for some reason!

50 seconds h:

XP Pro
AMD XP3800+
1GB pc3200

The BIOS took about 75% of that time.

the other day, i had to do a DSL install on an old crappy 233mhz, 64mb ram, win98se machine. it took almost 15 minutes for it to finally boot up & once it did, i looked @ the system resources to find only 28% free

so i go into msconfig & disable almost everything but the minimum & reboot. still takes almost 15 min to reboot, so i load adaware & spybot. which find almost 300,000 infected files & takes another 30-45 minutes to delete it all ........& another reboot. this time boot time is 3-5 minutes

so 1hr 45min into it, i FINALLY start the DSL portion of the install, only to find that the onboard NIC is defective & have to crack the case & put in a PCI NIC card........& another reboot.

i finally configure the modem & all the settings & stuff we have to do. 2hrs 45min total & give the guy the bill ....for what he paid to have it installed on his shitbox pc that won't work worth a damned on DSL, he coulda had the majority of the price of a good barebones dell that'd been 20x the pc he had.

$80 first half-hour & $55 per half-hour after that. so 3hr repair = $355 h: wned:
