I'm not the only person that is having problems with their Ipod. I know of other people who have had similiar problems, and there are tons of other people complaining. It's been on the news several times. I just think it's a little screwed up for the thing to work for a year and 2 months after I paid 300 dollars for it. And then they tell me there's nothing I can do because I'm out of warranty. Unless they fix this shit, I will never buy an ipod or any apple product again Not only that, I'll make sure none of my family or friends buy that crap either! AAAAAARGH!

apple likes to use components made by the lowest bidder, and then they charge the consumer a premium. that's why shit like this happens.

and F- that applecare nonsense. nowadays all electronics made by any reputable manufacturer should be GUARANTEED to last for years of normal use.

For most people, this is probably a good suggestion, however I'm a musician who is on the road touring approximately 24 weeks a year. A small capacity mp3 player wouldn't cut it for me.

They won't fix it unless you pay for it since it's out of warrenty.

A cheaper alternative would be to pay someone else than apple to replace your HD, or replace it yourself. I have seen sites that sell iPod hard drives and a tool to open it up.

Interesting...I thought they only l sold battery replacements. By the way, what do guys thinking about the symptoms I'm having. Is it a hard drive or battery problem because it is completely unresponsive. I was thinking that if the hard drive crapped out that, the screen would still show something--some type of error.

Im starting to think that its an Apple issue, not a hard-disk platter issue that Bl@ck was mentioning. Because many consumers that use other companies (creative, samsung) have much fewer issues. I say grab another company that spends more money on the product than advertising and you won't have a problem. The only downside is the availability of accessories and the cost of them.

Does your computer respond at all when you plug your iPod into it? Are you able to re-format it with the latest iPod software?

Doesn't sound like it's a battery issue to me since it happened all of a sudden.

i had this happen once, it froze turned on and finally died. it wouldnt restart when charging off the wall but i plugged it in at home via firewire and she started back up. I did this with the help of an apple tech and an extended warranty. he had me upgrade the firmware and a problem that i had recurring issues with (this one) has not come back. i use the ipod velcro'd to the side of my scooter without a problem...but running it skips sometime.
