Not only that, I'll make sure none of my family or friends buy that crap either! AAAAAARGH!
They won't fix it unless you pay for it since it's out of warrenty.
A cheaper alternative would be to pay someone else than apple to replace your HD, or replace it yourself. I have seen sites that sell iPod hard drives and a tool to open it up.
