chains cant hurt but i never use em. but i do have a couple lengths of straight chain (maybe 12-18") in the back of my truck in case i get on a patch of ice, i can throw em down under the tires. that worked for me everytime, but since i got my interco's i dont really have a need for em h:

[no offense]Dude, are your freaking serious? The last thing you want on slick roads is an overweight pig of a truck. And by the way, chains are for cars and trucks with shit tires. A good snow tire>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>chains. I drive at least weekly over the continental divide. If you're renting, get a taurus or neon or other run-of-the-mill front driver, check the tires and drive carefully. Pretty much every modern car has ABS. AWD helps you get moving, but when you're on slick roads, all you really need to be concerned about is stopping, which AWD hinders via weight. [/no offense]

well if you need a tahoe for cargo, go ahead. Just don't assume that its any better in the snow than any other car out there... its not.

yes, enterprise has chains for their rentals if the area has severe snow. when you call up to make a reservation, tell them you need chains. or if you make your reservation online, call up the branch and tell them you need chains. if you give them some notice, you'll be all set. they'll even show you how to put them on.

ok, i gotcha. Chains are a fix for bad tires, awd or not. AWD cars need good tires to be safe in the snow just as much as any car.
