I wouldn't suggest the original or any remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre...I've seen the original I it was easily the worst movie I have ever seen (it beat out Rollerball by just a little bit). I saw part of one of the remakes and it was also pretty bad.

Meh it depends on how you look at it I guess.

Historically it pretty much set the standard for slashers to meet up to. It was also based on actual events unlike part 2, 3, 4 etc. which lends an extra air of creepiness to the movie.

Given it doesn't hold true to the actual events and some liberty was taken, but knowing the true story of what did happen when I first saw it made it that much more intense a movie. Also you have to take into account what I said later in that post when talking about the horror genre regarding it's campy nature.

I dunno... I'm not a big fan of American horror... I think the japanese have taken the art far above and beyond what American filmmakers have produced...

I wanna see Marebito (NWS):

(Took the director, the guy who made Ju-On, 8 days to film this!)

Meh..that looks pretty typical of the horror I see coming out of Japan for years now. Pretty formulaic and not very story driven at all.
