House of 1000 Corpses was ok taking into consideration the era it was modeled after but it got a little too cutesy in some areas and didn't really carry as much story as I would have liked to see.

Devils Rejects was an amazing piece of work and really hit the mark both in violence as well as storyline. I think this is everything that House should have been.

I must check that out, haha.

Just keep in mind it is a period piece.

Devils Rejects was filmed following the 70s style of filmwork in horror. The film was supposed to be made fully with only effects available in the 70s as they would have at that time but they ran into time constraints and had to use some digital to finish it off in time.

House was shot in a 60's style but had elements of 70s as well. The psychedelia was a disorienting thing they used to use in horror and sci fi flicks from the late 50s through the 60s. You will see it in some pop films of the time as well when suspense is to be interjected because of lack of technology for anything else really.

So you are looking for a slasher?

If so then

Devils Rejects
High Tension (not great but the high end of good)
Strangeland (probably won't find it though)
Videodrome (80s movie but it's pretty cool)
Nailgun Massacre (just gratuitous violence kinda schlocky)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original not the shitty remake)
Pumpkinhead (just a fun movie for horror)

Can't think of too many straight slashers I can reccomend right now but these are some I enjoy for various reasons. The bad thing with horror is you usually have to compromise somewhere..good script/bad effects, good effects/shitty acting etc. So a lot of these get kind of campy at times but it's standard fair for horror.

devils rejects was a great movie.. i didnt expect it to have as good of a storyline as it did, kinda like saw. i thought saw was going to be just blood and gore with a shit storyline but it turned out to be the opposite. i think hostel will turn out to be everything i thought saw was going to be.
