I really don't feel like joining a dsm forum just to ask a few tune up questions about my 91 Eclipse GS beater. I got it for a used d16 DC header. I'm not looking to blow a lot of cash on this thing, it just has to last till like March. So anyway.

The car has an iradic idle like honda's can get when there is a vaccum leak or the idle screw needs adjusting. When I pull of a sensor near the throttle body which I believe is the TPS sensor the iradicness goes away. So does that mean that sensor is faulty or is there still room for a vaccum leak?

It idles around 3k. I haven't gotten it up to operating temperature yet because I think it needs an oil change so I don't want to fuck anything up.

I can't find a radiator cap...All I can find is the reservoir for coolant. It has a full support radiator I think, not a half one like the single cam Honda's.

What else should I change check before I start driving it?

Ya there is no radiator cap.

3000 rpm at idle? I don't know. That sounds more like a sensor problem than a vaccum hose but I can't really say.

I say change the oil, warm it up and then see what she does at operating temp.

The idle bounces when that sensor is plugged in. When I take the plug off it goes away. Then it idled up to 3k. So I plugged the sensor back in and the idle went down to 2k then bounced repedidly up to 3k. I took the plug off again and it just went back to 3k. A little hard to follow if you weren't there but I have a feeling it's that sensor. Not totally sure though.

 

Do Mitsu's have idle adjustment screws?

They suck ass and should all be turned into boat anchors because they are more useful that way.

 

Agreed. I couldn't pass up getting a car for a used header I couldn't even use though. I was just excited that I now have a solid three months to have Tony powder coat my shit and put on the turbo and do the fuel system. Then as soon as I no longer need the DSM's services I'm going down to the speedbowl and checking out the requirement for an enduro-race with this thing.h:

 

I know on Hondas, the "fast idle thermo" valve causes bouncing idles. You'll start your car hand have the engine surge up to 2500rpm, then back down to 1000rpm, and up again, and down again. It's like someone was rev'ing the engine.
