i had that problem with my 87 toyota camry.
The only way I solved the problem was when the water pump blew up and coolant went all over the place.
Tow truck picked it up. Problem solved.

I can tell you now that the idle bouncing is a common 1g DSM issue. My old laser did it. You just inherited a money pit, so youll be lucky if your next 3months dont cost you way more then that header lol.
