that actually makes me want to put on a trenchcoat, a fedora, and some shades and go buy an Xbox 360, even though I don't want one. That would be like an adventure.

I was kind of indifferent about Best Buy, but it turns out if you call the Geek Squad 800 number and say something like, "yeah I have a spyware checker program and it found like 200 something pieces of spyware, what do I do?" they'll tell you "that sounds like an operating system corruption problem, you need to reinstall windows before it gets worse, we can set up an in-home service for you that'll be only 129 dollars." I get the feeling that most problems, they will find an excuse to try and sell you some in-home service and not really help you on the phone particularly much. I mean come on.

i understand the need for a company to make money, but the ethical way to do it is not through deceptive practices. i've said this before, and this reaffirms that.. i will never buy anything from best buy again.

I see how deceptive it is but, would you want a mobb of people at bestbuy all trying to buy the same console? Imagine if 500 people show up and all of their 300 xboxes are sold. The 200 people left will probably start to riot or something.

yep. :wavey:

we had a surprise shipment of 24 of em yesterday. all the employees were calling up friends/family/anyone that was awake at 7am to come get in line cuz we as employees can't buy em.

i, for one, couldn't care less about a video game system. i download maybe 2 or 3 games for my pc a year, and i probably only play one out of those 2 or 3.

example: i downloaded BF2, COD2, and the new brothers in arms. i have only installed COD2. h:

i didn't see this last night. it absolutely was best buy that did this.
Although it was not a company-wide issue, some Best Buy stores forced eager consumers looking to buy an Xbox 360 to purchase a bundle with expensive accessories.

...certain Best Buy stores in the U.S. apparently ignored the standalone $299 (core) and $399 (premium) SKUs and either forced consumers to buy Xbox 360 bundles or strongly suggested that they do so.

you are correct. the other day our customer service reps were taping pieces of paper to the counters that said we had to accept any and all returns on undesired xbox360 bundle products. my store didn't do it, but we still had to accept all returns on em, no questions asked.

you would be correct in that feeling. geek squad is terrible. from what i've read, they're even worse than this 360 nonsense.

i just find it hilarious that a store named best buy is exactly the opposite of that. the irony...

not only do they overcharge like crazy - the same Sharp Aquos that i bought my parents, had i bought it at best buy, i would have paid at least $300 MORE without a "service plan" - but the fact that every employee there seems to be trained in the way of a used car salesman.. :squint: i mean, the fact that they try to sell you a service plan for any single item you buy, and then when you decline, they kindly remind you that you have only 14 days to return the item, and then you must go through the manufacturer.. :blah: come on now.. the tactics are obvious. and this is just the tip..

my point being, what pisses me off is that stores like this thrive on the uninformed consumer. that's what their whole sales strategy is about. that is what i find to be unethical, and unacceptable.

hey now, i'm an honest and educated seller. i know my products, their accessories, and i don't push anything on anyone. i know what services are worth it, when to offer them, and who to offer them to. i hate retail, but i try to offer the best service i can to customers who deserve it () because i know that most of my co-workers are horrible at what they do. there's usually a small group of people in each department who really know what they are doing.

ps- most products at best buy have a 30 day return policy. computers, digital cameras/camcorders and radar detectors have the 14 day. im sure there are others, but everything i sell in my dept has 30.
