so i could get a wireless router and still keep my cable connection or no?....i know alot about computers im just lost on the whole connecting computers together networking mumbo jumbo

what? you can do both


so lets say i want to put all the computers in one room....if there is cable in that room then all i need is the router and cat5 cable right?
yup (almost) any wired/wireless router will be fine

yup. all the computers connect to the router via cat5 (or wireless), and the router then connects to the cable modem.

But the router cant be that far from the modem. So if its a long wire from the modem to your current computer, you cant just stick a router there and hope to distribute from there.
