Default Speeding Ticket v. Court

Awhile ago over the summer, I got a ticket going 80 in a 55.. it was a highway and the only reason it wasn't 65 was because there was a left lane exit.. Anyways, this is my first speeding ticket and I was hoping to get it reduced to taking a driving course. How would I go about approaching this in the courtroom?

sorry to jack your thread but i have a question also.....
ive gotten 2 speeding tickets and ive heard that you have 1 plead for judgement which will basically throw away the ticket right? or atleast get it reduced to something minimal.....can i use that at any time if there is such a thing?

1) Get a lawyer.
2) Check out your local DMV website on where to take the drivers self-defense courses

No need to get a lawyer, it's a speeding ticket. Just be respectful, say you made a mistake and learned your lesson.

Not mine. About 4 years ago I had to deal with 3 tickets in 2 years. That would add up to 6-7 points which I would have lost my license. I had to pay something like $700 in traffic fines, but my lawyer was only $200 ($100 for 2 trials). I won two cases with him and ended up getting $500 back.

I had a special traffic/citation type lawyer though. And he was good - he knew the judges and was shooting the *beep!* with them

Can I really just ask? I have never been, so I was wondering what will happen... will they read me my charge then ask for my statement?

About 2 years ago i got a ticket for doing the exact same speed(80 in a 55). I got mine reduced without it going on my record but i still had to pay the fine(around 300 bucks). That's the most important part because no points and no insurance increase. The reason i got it taken off my record was because they are supposed to be visible for at least 500 feet when using stationary radar. The guy that clocked me was not. He was off the road in a dark church parking lot. This only applies to local, not state troopers in my state. I don't know what the laws are in your state. Also, you have to convince the judge. He/she has the final say so in the matter if you go to court.
