u mention keeping ins costs down.. the ins co goes by vin # so they know what u have base or sti.. u can add whatever parts u want to your car.. u have to have a special rider for some cars and the added parts to be covered in an accident or theft.. the manufacturers warranty is a different issue..they can void out the warranty as they see fit..shouldnt affect the warranty to upgrade the stock parts with another trim line of the same brand of car.. people add spoilers to cars that dont have them and that doesnt change the ins or the warranty.. the manufacturer and the ins co can let u know what increases the premiums and what voids the warranty..

I guess those aren't so bad. I've heard of people going with an aftermarket boost controller to bump the power up a little, but obviously you can't just slap an STi BC on there and hope to be alright.

I'm kind of wondering if the WRX would be fast enough for me. I think it should be, but I guess I'll just have to drive one and see.

what all are you trying to get from the STi, prett much anything from the STi will transfer over to the wrx platform...engine, suspension, interior, exhaust...everything.

It's a pretty quick car, there is no doubt, but speed is addictive

The biggest thing I'd want would be a little more power. I don't want to end up kicking myself because I didn't go with the big gun so to speak. (teh STI)

The shifter, exhaust and suspension would be fun bolt ons though.

EVERYTHING IS SWAPABLE!!! its like B series to B series...anything you wanna swap you can pretty much swap. and if you throw a UTEC on it and some bigger injectors etc the sky is the limit.

Everything is swappable....but not under warranty. Only the STi parts offered as options are covered under warranty.

If you end up getting the 06 WRX, I think you get the 2.5 L block, which will at least put you in the position where you don't need to do a whole STi engine swap to have the STi engine.
