I don't know how these reporters can say it didn't cause you can see it hit the dirt and come up into the mitt.

I saw the ball DRIBBLE against the dirt. It wasn't a clean scoop, it rattled around and touched the ground.

I saw the plays too and trust me I hate the angels, but that ball was caught. Ift you saw it hit the dirt, it was after the ball was already safely in the glove. If the ump didn't think so he shouldn't have made the out sign twice when everyone on the angels was looking at him.
Still going to stick to the ball bouncing back up into the glove, then dragging back and into the dirt again.
The umpire called a strike.

either way, I wish this game didn't end like this. I'd rather take a loss than have this call taint a possible World Series.
Heads up play by Perz(whatever) to cause the havoc.

then again, if the pitcher could retire Crede (the next batter) ... then this wouldn't be an issue.
Calls never get reversed. I know the manager has to voice his opinion ... but get off the field. You just iced your pitcher.

Regardless of whether it hit the dirt or not, the catcher should have tagged the batter, it was to close for comfort.

i also wish this didnt have to happen in the game. everybody is going to keep talking about this. i say, if the sox win the next 3 games, today's game shouldnt even be talked about anymore as a controversy. but whatever...
and about the ump calling strike/out on the 3rd strike....he would make that sign everytime there is a 3rd strike...whether the ball is caught cleanly or not. that definately should not be argued against.

I agree. There were plenty of very questionable calls in the Yankees Angels series as well. Playoff officiating has been crap thus far
