that could defintely help me with getting a better body cheaper, and still having $ left over to get a decent lens.

one caveat is that unlike point and shoots. dslr don't drop in price that much when a newer model comes out.

take a look at this guys:
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/mess...hreadid=513216
which is for this
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=a0488069
lazy people:
OLYMPUS EVOLT E-300 Two Lens Kit: Evolt E-300 Digital SLR Camera with Two Lenses
It includes the Evolt E-300 Digital SLR Camera and two Zuiko Digital Specific Lenses - one 14-45 mm and one 40-150 mm lens
Price: ~$600 shipped
That seems like a great price considering the two lens you get. The body seems to be constructed out of solid aluminum which is a definte plus on my standards. However the body doesn't seem to be of great caliber.. at all. Higher ISO (800+) is noisy, pictures dont seem as crispy as other DSLRs, small buffer, and usb 1.1 (wtf? who uses 1.1 any more lol... can always pop out the card and put it into a newer reader though)
it would defintely be a good throw around camera, but doesn't seem to be in the same caliber performance of the cameras i was looking at.
thoughts?

you're conclusion is correct. seems like a good price but it doesn't compete with the nikon/canons listed above.

there's a site (usaphotonation.com) that has the 20d body for $749, but it's just the body, no nothing, not even a warranty. i'm thinking about it, but i wish it had some kind of warranty.

when it comes to several bills, im usually a lot more careful with it. (whereas if i spend like $50 on 20 things, im a freaking impulse idiot, go figure).
but seriously, that sounds too good to be true. and when it looks like its too good to be true, then it probably is too good to be true. i would rather opt for paying the premium and making sure my investment is secure/protected/warrantied.
anyone know which DSLRs come in a metal-like frame and which ones do not?
Okay hold up a second now shall we?
First of all, an "insanely fast shutter speed" has nothing to do with how quickly a camera can go from shot to shot. Secondly, the cheapest dSLR that is for the most part all metal is the Canon 20D at about $1300 for just the body.
What are you looking to accomplish with this new camera? What sort of situations will you be taking pictures in? You say you want to be able to take shots in quick succession but that's a rather general description. Are you taking pictures of sports events? Parties? Give some more detail on what you're going to be shooting and that will help give a recommendation.

going from shot to shot quickly shouldnt be a problem because of most high buffers in DSLRs and the fact that many of them can both read and write at the same time.
my serious concentration: i will be taking pictures mostly of nature (flowers, woodlands, mountains, sky, the sun, etc). obviously, i will also use it for random applications as well such as maybe family pictures & picnics, but for the most part I am looking at pictures of nature.
other perks i may use the camera for is for fast paced images, such as the power explosion of a bullet out of a chamber. no doubt that it will be hard if not impossible to get a good picture, but ive always wanted to try to get a pefect shot of a bullet exiting the chamber of a gun.
