Default [camera & photo crew]

soon will be entering the SLR market.

Price Range: sub ~$1500

Ive been watching the price of CANON EOS Digital Rebel XT and 20D. Obviously, the XT is the cheaper of the two, but in real life and not just in number, how do they compare? Any input?

How does Konica-Minolta or Olympus stack to the SLR competition? Ive heard some good things of the former, but the latter seems kind of bare in any feedback?

I am really eyeballing the Rebel XT considering the price, what you get, and the fact that im an amateur at SLRs, but all depends on what I hear:

"Many of the feature advancements and innovations on the EOS Digital Rebel XT digital camera are inherited from its EOS 20D “prosumer big brother.” Both cameras employ a Canon 8-megapixel, high resolution color CMOS image sensor, and provide the same effective angle of view, equivalent to 1.6 x the normal EF lens focal length. The consumer looking only at the fact that they are both 8-megapixel SLRs might not easily see the real differences between these two cameras. The 20D offers faster continuous shooting (5 frames-per-second (fps) vs. 3 fps) with a larger burst capability (23 frames vs. 14), more custom settings (18 vs. 9) and a rugged magnesium body. The Rebel XT was created for those migrating to digital that don't want to lose the power or flexibility of a SLR system, but can't justify the $600 higher price of the EOS 20D." -Steve's Digicam

have you tried out the cameras? I personally found the XT/20D too small to handle comfortably.

I went with the d70. Forget about the MP count between 6 and 8 you wont be able to see the difference.

xp/20d/d70/d50 are all great dslrs. K-M/Olympus umm they don't stack up to canon/nikon

well my hands are pretty stubby/smaller, so the xt/20ds sat well in my hands. albeit, the d70 was more comfortorable because there was just more to grab in pure surface area terms.

the MP im not really worried about, as long as its like... 4+ then im golden.

I don't have small hands but I still prefered the d70. it's a personal preference thing.

the dslrs listed are 6MP -8MP

The 20D is the nicer overall camera than the 350D, metal instead of plastic, and some other assorted "better" stuff, but as far as the quality of the pictures they take there's hardly any difference. If you're only looking to buy one lens, better to go 350D and a reasonably good lens instead of 20D and a so-so lens.

As for quality difference, on a computer screen or at smaller print sizes, no, you won't see a big difference between an 8-megapixel 20D/350D image and a 6-megapixel image from any of the other companies. But as you go to larger print sizes you'll see more of a difference.

blah blah blah, lots of random stuff there. just copied and pasted from some poor site that wishes to be credited with appropriate citation. too bad.

anyways, with this camera i have been VERY pleased with its quality. in fact, sd300 and sd400 have been the most dependable and best rated by yours truly for a p&s. (the sd200 and sd500 are a whole different story). i believe it comes with magenisum as its body, but regardless of what it is it feels like metal and its light and it feels nice

i know the 20D comes with the magnesium body which is a defintely ++, but just as the quote i put up there says, you defintely pay for it in the price.

how about other DSLR cams, how do their bodies feel?

Of your choices in that range I would go in this order:

20d
d70
Digital rebel (d350)

The 20d has faster frame rate and larger buffer than the d70 which is the only reason I would pick it over the d70. The Rebel is a great camera but putting it against those two is really an unfair comparison since the d70 and 20d are entry level DSLRs and the Rebel is more a hobbyists camera.

for what your looking for the 20d would fit you best. another very good cam that you can probly get for 850-900 now is the nikon d100. i use that along with my rebel.
