bush can't do shit about the gas prices, because he doesn't control the supply and demand of oil. and yes, prices will go up a little bit more than they'll even out.

Don't really save that much in the end with Hybrids anyways. Just be glad you have a four cylinder.

People need to quit bitching. It's 2x more in some European countries. Besides, it doesn't make that much of a difference for us personally filling up our tanks. What $20-40/month? Where it's going to hurt us all is on shipping for goods and everything else. This drives up the cost of virtually everything.

And what exactly is he supposed to do about it? Start killing people so the demand goes down? We have no one to blame but ourselves. If your sick of gas prices being so high do your part by limiting your driving, and get something that uses less gas. Then start persuading your family and friends to do the same. Or I guess you could start pumping your own oil so there is more production. Either demand has to go down, or production has to go up. I don't see how Bush has control over that?

The problem is that in other countries, the gas is damn expensive because of taxation, which is used to pay for the roads, environmental cleanup, and mass transit. When I was in europe, the roads were immaculate and I swear I didn't see a single pothole.

Here, the taxes haven't gone up. The gas companies just realized they can make more of a profit, and keep raising the prices. When the prices stabilize is when their profits cap off :happysad:

if the gas prices were high because of taxation, then people would bitch even more. also the tax needs to be higher there because they simply have less cars. mass transit also works because the populations are packed much much more densely.

using germany as an example, they often have bad traffic jams caused by the constant road work being done (not everywhere but it's enough to cause problems). this wouldn't be so bad if it didn't cost them so much money to repave/repair.

you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't.

Nah, people who are onto the whole idea that any tax is evil would bitch more, and would argue that the price would be "so much cheaper if we just lowered the taxes". To the end consumer, the gas price would be the same, and if anything, would see more immediate returns.

Regardless, it is a damned situation. BUT I think we would be much better off if we just capped this damn oligopoly. It's no secret that they are making record-breaking profits right now, which is only beneficial if you're a shareholder. Unfortunately, with this current administration, I doubt that any oil profiteering regulation will ever exist.
