good news is if its your power supply you can go buy one at any computer shop for around 50 bucks. to test the power supply, just buy one..install it and if the computer turns on then ur good..if not just return and get ur money back and look into buying a new computer because the other possibility is that ur motherboard is fucked...btw dont get a gateway/emachine they suck

The only reason I could think that perhaps turning a computer on and off is bad is the preload caused by spinning the harddrive..

Other then that it also pulls in dust 24/7, as opposed to NEVER when off, its generating heat constantly when on, and the fact that dust + current = a slew of bad things.... your theory makes no sense.

hard drives are balanced fairly well, spinning them up really doesnt hurt them

can't do that with a dell... the mobo power connectors are proprietary

being that its a dell im pretty sure id have to get a dell replacement one, like i mentioned before it has a 24 pin and a 16 pin connector instead of the 20 pin that most pcs have, correct me if im wrong though. even if it is the board then im still not doing too bad as ive got nothing in the computer. i wish i could just stick another PS in there and test it but the only way thats possible is if i order one or start jumping wires.

turning a computer off and on can cause chip creep. also, a constant temperature is better for electronics than a temperature that moves from extreems(ie cold/off warm/on). the change in temperature causes unnecessary expansion and contraction to components which in turn creates wear.

Also turning it off and on can lessen the life of your power supply.
