The only reason I could think that perhaps turning a computer on and off is bad is the preload caused by spinning the harddrive..
Other then that it also pulls in dust 24/7, as opposed to NEVER when off, its generating heat constantly when on, and the fact that dust + current = a slew of bad things.... your theory makes no sense.
