Late 20's, homeowners, husbands? Considering that criteria, isn't your upper tier of $5000+ kind of low? :happysad: That said, for my age, I'm broke as a joke.

You might want to change that to how much do you have saved up that you don't touch. As in you're not saving money to buy something but money you have saved up in case of something happens.

many people save up money but usually blow it all on a car or something like that.

I've got about 3k saved up, but I'll probably use my 401k savings for a house down payment, and just pay it back like my father did.

24 years old.
10k+ in ameritrade (4700 was deposits; the rest is gains)
10k in real estate investment on which i get 10-15% annual return
7k in roth IRA
2k in ING
1.5k in checking
600 in 401k
-4.3k debt

it's easier to save when you live with parents. but even condos here cost 350k, so i got a ways go to.
