It really depends on the camera you are using. Myself I'm using a Canon Powershot G3 so the pics are only max res like 2048x?? and a max size of around 3MB for a 4MP shot.

But you get into the high end Digital SLR and you require 1 gig or 2 gig cards just for all the data they store and if you shoot in RAW format as well.

Wow...90%, thats a pretty good number. If I am actually out trying to take pics to print or keep, I end up liking about 5-10% of them. Post some of your stuff. :happysad:

My D70 pictures are generally about 2.7MB, and 5MB if I shoot in RAW.

Oh I could use a 512 card still but the quantity of images I end up taking with my 10d pretty much makes short use of that size card. I try to limit my card dumps since it tends to take more time than I usually have to spare on location.

Now that IM shooting B&W and working in the darkroom at school ( should have my darkroom up in the next two weeks) I shot 120 frames of 400TMaxx of all of those shots only 15-20 where truely great pictures. Two where so great a very small local paper used them for a car crash story. I got paid a whopping $25.00 and my name was mentioned. IM going to process 96 frames Monday all action shots from the local skatepark.

very true that you are your worst critic, I was culling negatives on the light table and letting others look at them and they where like your tossing this?
I have become very protective of my work so I chop them up good

If i showed most people my pics, they would say 90% are good/great. I've posted an utterly crap pic before only to have people say it was very good. I am my own worse critic and I have a very high standard as some of the folks here knows. Thus I usually only keep 1 out of every 50-80shots. At the same time, I shoot about 800shots when I go shooting at the track.

This last run I went on yielded me more keepers than throwaways because I am becoming far more comfortable with my adjustments and angles, the fash has also helped me to up my number of keepers as well.

It's a tough learning curve really and the more shots you take the more you get to recognize these things. Another thing that is hard to do is be a harsh and honest critic of your own work. Every once in a while I second guess myself and process a shot I think is a throwaway and it turns out to be a worthy keeper...just takes practice, lots and lots of practice.

I am far from saying I am great because I still am constantly improving every time I go out and I still screw up more than my fair share of shots.

I need more time to go shoot I am getting better at adjusting the camera to suit a given situation but still far from being good. I rate myself soso.

Id rather be harsh than to say something like..."Ohhhh sweeet, thats a great shot!!" h: That way, you can actually get some good critiquing than just spewing my opinion.

The rocks have some really great and interesting detail, but that totally hides the subjects of the picture, which I am assuming is the penguins. I would have like to see a closer up shot of the birds because I think that would be more interesting. At first glace, I just see a big rock, then my eyes get drawn to the birds which then I realize they are just too small to really get a good looking at.

And the thing about photography, it's an art...so what I said can totally be disregarded if you wanted since after all, it's my vision of a good picture and not anyone elses. h:
