If you want something with a good motor, the general rule for muscle cars is '72 or older. If you're gonna build the motor then a newer one would work.

The one exception to this rule is the Pontiac Trans Am which was available with the 455 H.O. big block up thru most of the 70s. It wasn't as powerful as the pre-'73 big blocks, but it still hauls pretty good.
First, I appreciate your post because its the only useful one in this thread. Second, it has a 350 small block in the there and from little research I did, you can get 400-600whp easy. Why 74 and not pre 70s is cause its free. Plain and simple.

Well like I said before, if you plan to build the car up then it's not as much of a big deal to stick to a pre-'73 car. You can always redo the exhaust and bump the compression up.

I dunno if I would say 400-600 whp out of a carbeurated Chevy 350 smallblock is "easy," but it's doable. I'd say up to 475 whp normally aspirated is about within reason. Beyond about that level you need more displacement like stroking it out to 383 ci or a power adder like a blower, turbo or nitrous.
