1) Do you consider the time saved by multitasking behind the wheel vital to your carrer or livelihood?

No.

2) In your opinion, is your ability to drive safely hampered by talking on the phone? Explain.

I believe that it can effect your ability to pay attention while driving. Yes.

3) Have you ever had a "near-miss" (or an accident) while driving and using your cellphone? If so, did you consider the cell-phone to be a contributory factor?

Yes. h: It was the contributing factor for my neglegence.

4) What is your impression of the media's response to the issue of distracted driving? Is the risk blown out of proportion?

5) Are the current laws regulating the use of cell phones behind the wheel too strict, or is further legal action needed?

What laws are there? :dunno:

2) In your opinion, is your ability to drive safely hampered by talking on the phone? Explain. yeah, for some reason i cant give half and half attention, its always staggered and usually more to talking than driving h:

3) Have you ever had a "near-miss" (or an accident) while driving and using your cellphone? If so, did you consider the cell-phone to be a contributory factor? not that i remember

4) What is your impression of the media's response to the issue of distracted driving?
Is the risk blown out of proportion? some people shouldnt be allowed to breathe while driving, others can do damn near anything and drive with no problems....

5) Are the current laws regulating the use of cell phones behind the wheel too strict, or is further legal action needed? they're dumb laws, if somebody does something wrong and the cell phone is "at fault," give them a ticket. if people can handle both at the same time, leave them alone. we already have laws for this stuff, its called reckelss driving, why make more laws?

1) Do you consider the time saved by multitasking behind the wheel vital to your carrer or livelihood?
No.

Somewhat. Usually when I'm talking on my cell phone and driving, I use a ear piece. However, whether I'm using the ear piece or not, I pay less attention to driver's around me. I've never had a problem of swerving off the road or going into other lanes. But I have noticed I am a lot less cautious towards other drivers while talking on my cell phone.
3) Have you ever had a "near-miss" (or an accident) while driving and using your cellphone? If so, did you consider the cell-phone to be a contributory factor?
No.
4) What is your impression of the media's response to the issue of distracted driving?

All I see on the news is updates on the subject. With that, the media tends to take a side. They always report accidents where cell phones were involved to make it look like cell phone usage in cars is a major cause to accidents. The major cause to accidents is people who don't know their limits when it comes to multi-tasking.
5) Are the current laws regulating the use of cell phones behind the wheel too strict, or is further legal action needed?
I haven't researched the current laws. I think it may be a good idea to atleast impose a law that states you must use a handsfree device to talk on cell phones while driving.

1) Do you consider the time saved by multitasking behind the wheel vital to your carrer or livelihood?
hahah nope

2) In your opinion, is your ability to drive safely hampered by talking on the phone? Explain.

I only use speaker phone in the car

3) Have you ever had a "near-hit" (or an accident) while driving and using your cellphone? If so, did you consider the cell-phone to be a contributory factor?

no but that doesn't mean I don't think cellphone isn't a big contributory factor to near misses and accidents

4) What is your impression of the media's response to the issue of distracted driving?

the risk is very real and I stopped counting near misses that occur on my commute everyday. I've only been commuting for the past 9working days

5) Are the current laws regulating the use of cell phones behind the wheel too strict, or is further legal action needed?

1) Do you consider the time saved by multitasking behind the wheel vital to your carrer or livelihood?

no, driving my car is enough multitasking as is. h:

2) In your opinion, is your ability to drive safely hampered by talking on the phone? Explain.

depends, not so much on the highway or down a straight road without lights. I have to shift which complicates things otherwise. I try to avoid it when I can and keep the conversation very short. I'll just stop talking to the person and put the phone down for a second if I have to do something. People who don't are idiots, people are poor enough drivers as is.

3) Have you ever had a "near-hit" (or an accident) while driving and using your cellphone? If so, did you consider the cell-phone to be a contributory factor?

no

4) What is your impression of the media's response to the issue of distracted driving?

Calling attention to it is good. Personally I think the media blows a lot of things out of proportion because they never have enough shit to put on the air, I guess you could call this one of them.

5) Are the current laws regulating the use of cell phones behind the wheel too strict, or is further legal action needed?

not very strict, I think you should be given pulled over and given a fine for doing it.

2) In your opinion, is your ability to drive safely hampered by talking on the phone? Explain. Yes in a sense...when multitasking with anything, attention will be taken away from something else. Is that attention taken away from driving enough to consider my driving, unsafe? I dont think so.

3) Have you ever had a "near-hit" (or an accident) while driving and using your cellphone? If so, did you consider the cell-phone to be a contributory factor? No. When using the phone, I slow down my pace and use extra care to notice my surroundings.

4) What is your impression of the media's response to the issue of distracted driving? Is the risk blown out of proportion? I think the media is doing an ok job of expressing their views on the situation.

5) Are the current laws regulating the use of cell phones behind the wheel too strict, or is further legal action needed? I am not familiar with the laws. But women driving cars over 2.5 tons while on the phone should be illegal. h:

i dont consider it as "time saved". i answer it because it's my gf :happysad:
2) In your opinion, is your ability to drive safely hampered by talking on the phone? Explain.
honestly, during heavy traffic, i do find that being on the phone can be distracting and more difficult to judge nearby vehicle's speeds. other than that, in medium to light traffic, i feel that my peripheral awareness is pretty safe.
3) Have you ever had a "near-hit" (or an accident) while driving and using your cellphone? If so, did you consider the cell-phone to be a contributory factor?
refer to previous answer about heavy traffic.

4) What is your impression of the media's response to the issue of distracted driving?
Is the risk blown out of proportion?
no. because there are A LOT of idiots on the road who cant drive to begin with, regardless if theyre on the phone or not.

5) Are the current laws regulating the use of cell phones behind the wheel too strict, or is further legal action needed?
i think that a ticket should also be given to the driver in addition to the obvious traffic violation. if the driver did not commit a traffic violation, but the driver is driving either to slow or fast or unsteady and is on the phone, then the driver should be given a new "1 point unsafe driving" ticket.
