3. yes and yes
4. definately is not blown out of proportion, people are dumb
5. i think they should have the same conseguences as they do for a seat belt.

Headset only, it should be illegal to drive with one otherwise. You can't drive drunk legally, why can you drive and talk on the phone, you are impaired in a similar fashion

Rarely talk while driving...when I do, handsfree is a must especially with a manual.

1) Do you consider the time saved by multitasking behind the wheel vital to your carrer or livelihood?
- Not really, wouldn't call it vital but rather a convenience.

2) In your opinion, is your ability to drive safely hampered by talking on the phone? Explain.
- Somewhat, but very little compared to others actually holding the phone and driving with just one hand.

3) Have you ever had a "near-hit" (or an accident) while driving and using your cellphone? If so, did you consider the cell-phone to be a contributory factor?
- No. Have had other drivers that drive and hold their phone have "near hits" on me.

4) What is your impression of the media's response to the issue of distracted driving?
Is the risk blown out of proportion?

- Not much media response, more is needed.

5) Are the current laws regulating the use of cell phones behind the wheel too strict, or is further legal action needed?
- Cell phones should be banned unless using handsfree or an equivalent. Complete ban for the dumber drivers that take driving for granted. Stupid Texas taking forever to implement anything.

If someone calls me I'll answer and talk but I don't make phone calls while in the car.

1) seeing as i spend majority of my day in the car...yes

2) no and yes...before i got a stick it was no big deal. now i try to pull into a parking lot to talk because drivin in a residential area or downtown def is difficult when ur hands are using the phone and ya gota shift

3) no

4) i think the media is overly biased on many subjects for many reasons, they are for one a liberal outlet but i think they are def biased on cell phone issues because its something that can easily be blown out of proportion and for which there is no accurate way of measuring the eefects it honestly has

5) ummm our state has no laws

It isn't vital for me. But its convenient. For my mom, who's a realtor, its vital for her career.

2) In your opinion, is your ability to drive safely hampered by talking on the phone? Explain.

With the phone in my hand, yes. With a headset, very minimally.

3) Have you ever had a "near-hit" (or an accident) while driving and using your cellphone? If so, did you consider the cell-phone to be a contributory factor?

I've had a near hit with a headset. The other bitch was on a cell phone sans headset though.

4) What is your impression of the media's response to the issue of distracted driving?
Is the risk blown out of proportion?

No, it is not blown out of proportion. It is a major safety issued which needs to be addressed.

5) Are the current laws regulating the use of cell phones behind the wheel too strict, or is further legal action needed?

I believe that headsets should be required by law in the whole country.

1) Do you consider the time saved by multitasking behind the wheel vital to your carrer or livelihood?

No, when I'm in my car it's leisure time.

2) In your opinion, is your ability to drive safely hampered by talking on the phone? Explain.

No. Even driving a 5 speed, I have complete control of the car starting from a stop, shifting, and at high speed on the freeway.

3) Have you ever had a "near-hit" (or an accident) while driving and using your cellphone? If so, did you consider the cell-phone to be a contributory factor?

Yes I've had a near-hit, but it was someone else who would have hit me while I was on the phone.

4) What is your impression of the media's response to the issue of distracted driving?
Is the risk blown out of proportion?

The risk is not blown out of proportion, some people are obviously distracted while using a cell phone.

5) Are the current laws regulating the use of cell phones behind the wheel too strict, or is further legal action needed?

I don't think there should be restrictions on cell phone use in the car. However, I think there should be *some* sort of penalty if you cause an accident while on a cell phone.

The only time i use my cell while driving is when it rings then i don't say hello i say i'll call you back in 5 and hang up, no byes. yeah i'm an ass. and yes it is a major safety concern. I've almostbeen hit way too many times because of this. I don't care who you are, you don't NEED to talk on the phone while driving. Pull over if it's important damnit.
