but yeah, i think that Hamilton displayed extremely poor judgement when asking him to come and speak... they have been doing a wonderful job of making stupid moves as of late. asking a convicted explosives crazy to come teach a course there?? (should i say here, yeah its my hometown and i care) but that is another discussion altogether.
I too dont believe it is a violation of freedom of speech. I used to go to a university which was divided palestinian and Israelis. When the university decided to invite Benjamin Netanyhu to speak at our University, pro Palestinian protesters showed up and the whole thing turned to violence and riot. Now the university is refusing alot of pro israeli AND pro palestinian visits. last year they refused Ehud Barak planned visit saying that it could turn to violence. I think its sad as us, the student, are now not able to see different point of view on this subject.
I think its the same for you school. I know that again some might take this a a judgment from me but i think that this guy visiting your school would show students an other point of view on things. Even if you dont agree with him he still has a different point of view (which was what the university was trying got do). Not just accepting the statue quo without questioning it.
So my point of view on this: It is unfortunate that this guy was not able to do his speech. But the university did the right choice as they are canceling it to protect the students and staff. and maybe next time they should ask the student councils oppinion before inviting someone with a controverted opinion. If the majority of student do not want this person to visite then the University should not invite him.

as promised, here are a few excerpts from the articles in the local paper regarding this crazy, Ward Churchill

"the world trade center victims were not innocent and deserved to die because they were a willing part of the engine of profit."

"the WTC victims were 'little Eichmanns'" which is a reference to Adolf Eichmann, an organizer of the Nazi regimes plan to rid Europe of Jewish people

and lastly, he described the 9/11 attacks as "gallant sacrifices" by the "combat teams" that struck america.

See, typical "capitalism is evil" crap.

What I don't get is these people claim that the U.S. is under "Zionist control" and then they say that we're trying to exterminate the Jews?

Which one is it?
