I have put in many days in back country hiking for turns in remote locations, I have also gone heli boarding in uncontrolled environments and if that isn't taking your risks then I don't know what is.
I always wanted to do heli ski. But as far as hiking up a mountain to go back down it, not for me

Hiking isn't that bad really and the turns are totally worth it. we used to hike up a mountain for 6 hours or so, setup camp, eat and hang out then in the morning get up hike a little further and head down. Of course we took all the precautions such as avalanche beacons, shock cord, shovels, and we did all the snow testing etc so we could minimize risk somewhat.
The runs from the hikes and from heli skiing would be about an hour non stop to the bottom and all untouched powder....words can't even describe the feeling on the way down.

Maybe when I was younger hiking up with 20-50lbs on your back is not bad, but not now
I'd have an asthma attack the 1st 10 minutes of the hike.Oh yes I know what fresh powder is. Vail had so many trails that the one section was just deep deep powder. And I mean like if you stop you would sink up past your head deep
That was cool!
