I believe it's required by law. Sometimes you can't see it or don't know it's their. There are different types too. The traditional one where you have to flip up to start the flow and the newer ones where the exit nozzle would go pushes it in when you put the pump handle bakc.

I would not worry about it, your cars paint is exposed bad shit 24 hours a day, Then again maybe I should ask caltrans for compensation for all those pepples that hit my front spoiler
