One team with a small payroll winning one year does not make a trend. It's simply an exception to the rule.
Baseball is boring as hell because there are a few good teams in the big markets that are perenially in the hunt and a bunch of other teams that don't do shit, the season is way too long, there's too many games where the same damn teams play each other, and the players are a bunch of overpaid whiney prima donnas.
The NFL has it figured out.

If you can honestly say that the Yankees 26 championships weren't due to having the highest salary cap in the lead, you're blind as fvck.
So the Marlins had it one year. This doesn't make it a rule, but rather an exception.
