the darwin awardees are the cream of the crop of re-re's. i think we need a few more chlorine tablets in the gene pool to weed out the weak.

personally i think that modern medicine is more of a detriment to society than a help, but that's just my opinion. what are your thoughts?

I agree that natural selection doesn't exist in the human species. However, I'm not going to be the first to not vaccinate my kid. I'm not going to refuse a pill that can save my life. If my loved one refused to see a doctor for a broken bone, I would not be happy about that.

Fortunately, we have technology that can perhaps save us from genetic doom: genetic engineering. Instead of relying on nature and the death of million of people to cure nearsightness, for example, we will eventually simply change their genes so they are perfectly healthy. In fact, we'll probably be able to improve ourselves beyond the present scope of our species.

Some might say that this is playing God, but ultimately we will have no choice. Play God or become a species of genetic freaks.

hahaa...no. I'm new to this site. I just went to page 2 and it was there. Apparently I went to page 2 of oldest threads in the world.

edit: Oh, I see, I went to page 1225. I meant to go to page 2. I guess I was slightly off.

IMO, it's the same or similar drive that drives us to reproduce. Prolong the species.

We have realized that we can counter some things that cause people to die. Thus allowing our kind to continue to live and mature and mate some more.

I think it's a similar type thing to other animals just reproducing and protecting themselves. I think we just take it to the next level, cause we can.
