natural selection
why is it that humans don't practice natural selection? i mean that's the way things are supposed to work. if you're born with defective parts you die. it helps keep the gene pool healthy. if a person that is born with a life threatening disability dies then his/her dna is not passed on to offspring, therefore the defective dna is lost and effectively filtered from the gene pool. the same goes for cancer and other illnesses and conditions.
personally i think that modern medicine is more of a detriment to society than a help, but that's just my opinion. what are your thoughts?

The major difference you are missing here is that humans are different from your typical living being..we are intellegent and have developed methods in which to prolong life, some see it as playing God..Emotionally we are also more involved..experiencing compassion on a completely different level as animals do..I believe we may be the only species on earth that cares for the survival of other species..

if you had a kid that was born with a birth defect, are you saying you should just pull the plug right then and there?? And humans do undergo natural selection to a certain degree...people have become taller over generations, people near more UV intensive areas of the planets have darker skin, etc etc. modern medicine is just a spec in the grand scheme of human existence, so who really knows...natural selection is a VERY gradual process occuring over many generations.

these things came about before the advent of modern medicine. they don't aid your argument at all. and yes, if i had a child that was born retarded or physically disabled i would rather pull the plug then and there than let that child face the ridicule and embarrasment that they are destined to face their whole lives. i mean come on. let's really be humane here.

I think if you are deformed in any way, you should be sterolized (sp?). Even if you have asmhea (sp?). This would save tax payers millions of dollars too

I totally agree with you dude, but nobody every agrees with me on the same issue. I tend to be kinda radical with my political opinions.
