Well, since I have an "okay" 500mhz compaq that is okay for internet and word processing (most of what I do)...

I was thinking, hmm...can I hook up the dell with ethernet cable to the cable modem, and connect the compaq up to the same modem with USB cable?

I'm cheap and don't want to but a router or ethernet card for the compaq, heh.

 

I tried and no it wont work.
What you could do is put another ethernet card in there and get a crossover cable. Thats what i do whenever i go around my friends house and i brink my laptop

You could probably hook up the dell to the modem via ethernet and hook up the Compaq to the Dell via USB.

goober doesn't know anything about networking so it'll just cause him more frustration.
