i have an idear...
Actually yes it would work, if the modem allows it... but it's going to be a bit of a hassle and won't work very well.
You might only be able to have one on at a time, which is more of a pain than just switching an ethernet cord back and forth.
USB for networking is just generally not a good idea.
I've seen people do it and there is mixed results. Some insist that it was perfect, most others say it's slower, unreliable and just a hassle to reconfig any time you have trouble with it.
Kinda like putting a b18c1 into a Corvette. Sure you could do it... but it's not a good idea.

Although soon I am going to have to set up a wireless network
i'm not looking forward to eeeit.
bright shoe is right, it didn't work
At least now, though, if I have to use something on the Compaq, i can just unplug the ethernet cord from the dell and use the internet on the compaq...and i won't have to take the modem and switch cables (some of our cable is boosted
)

The SB5100 supports using both USB and the ethernet ports at the same time. You will have to get your cable company to give you two IP addresses though. My co. charges $5 a month per extra IP.
