Yes and no.

It had to do with the topic at hand and reinforced that he was indeed a religious man. To do that in a debate is a bit of a gamble but he obviously saw it as a risk that may be to his favor.

Uhhhh...the abortion argument is heavily based on religion and no matter how you argue it, it will lead back to religious beliefs.

i guess. but i, personally, have never argued that on a religious level. ever. my arguement for abortion has always been based on me as a woman.

As well it should be argued that way, but of course it doesn't always go the way it should and other views get skewed from all sides.

Much like the relationship of marital benefits and homosexual marriages or unions gets tossed in religious fields.
