solo 2 is traditionally what's known as Gymkhana or autox. You run against the clock.
in Solo 1, you are racing against someone on a mirror image course as you and there is even a drag tree for starts. You are racing against 1 person each round... I believe, I've never done solo1.

You also need more safety equipment and in most cases licensing too. You need a roll bar, fire extiguisher, nomex suit, nomex gloves, leather shoes, baclava (if you have face hair), SA helmet, and other things. It's still one person on the course at a time or when the person gets close to the finish they send the next one out like autocross.
Solo2 is autocross

I saw one car last year go right off the cliff at Pagoda in an Eclipse or Talon. I went

anyhoo, yeah, course was great---i dunno what ur talking about on the slalom critiques up there^, i thought it was fine, and actually, in a lot of ways i thought the course was easier to follow than last week. i DNF-ed one last week because the mid-course cross thru the double gate leading back to a hard left was completely counter-intuitive for me. :dunno:
and as for tire pressure....i've been runnin 40 on my fronts n 30 in the rear, seems to be working, eh, ohkay. this was only my 4th event so there's plenty of time to play with it, and besides, i am running on probably THE shittiest tires on course (really, don't bother arguing with me here....2 are generals, 1 is a cooper, and the 4th is this completely bald-wal-mart generic brand called sonar...and yes, i know it isn't a good idea to auto-x them, and yes, i'm looking at getting falken azenis when the time comes to replace all 4.

anyhoo--for you newbies out there....i've found a lot of assistance by talking to guys at a forum that's all about preludes, as far as set-up and knowledge about how the car will handle, etc. i'm also reading a book called "the secrets of solo racing" by henry watts...it's been really valuable for me--and i think it's a good idea to get something like that as a reference, especially in your first few events. that way, when you're at the course, you can practice what you've learned, talk to others about it, then come home and really drive the principles home with the diagrams and explanations in the book. some concepts are more difficult to grasp than others, and simply talking about it in on the grid or in the pits doesn't always make a big enough impression. (or, that might just be me)...once i have the basics down (and a lil spare $$$ if ya nahmean), i'll put myself thru some driver training courses.
and jae....sorry about your laptop man...i saw that thing fly, it made me cringe...
fYi, there was some dude there taking muchos pictures with his digital SLR...he's going to be emailing me some pix (hopefully)...i'm not sure if he stuck around all day or not, but if he posts them somewhere i'll find out for y'all....

) She was your competitor last week in the desert silver RSX Type S.
Thats why i always recommend IBM thinkpads to people. It might not be the best looking thing. But it can be hurled from a car and still start up. Minus the hard drive messing up now but thats not IBM's fault.

It's too bad you will be leaving us though. We have been told we host one of the best novice schools (in April). As for the guy with the SLR, lots of people were taking pictures except me (who usually gets 600-900 pictures at events). I actually asked people on our Egroups.com board to get me some of my car to send to my sponsors.
I'll let you know when someone posts a link.
