Its not "still a corolla" It has a Celica GT-S engine (2ZZ-GE) tuned to give it a bit less HP but a MUCH more usable powerband. The suspension is also lower and stiffer than a basic corolla. Id take it over a Civic EX anyday.

The current Corolla looks awful IMO. So the XRS is at a disadvantage from the start.
Also, 160hp in today's sporting compact market, is not all that much, considering the price of entry...
Again, I return to my first argument.
If it were my $15K, I'd by an DB Integra and start with that. Or if you want a plebian looking sedan, get a EK Civic and go from there.
