Leaking the source code is like getting your hands on the blueprints, models, computer data and all testing data used to create that car. It's much more in depth and accurate. You can see flaws or advantages that the mfgr doesn't tell you about before the car is even released.
So what do they have to hide? Well it's code. Meaning it's what's used to actually make the game. It's what the game is made from. Anyone with programming skills can go through that code and find problems, bugs, ways to cheat, ways to mess with other people if it's an online game, ways to steal ideas and code to use them... for whatever they want.
Imagine if Toyota was able to get all the information on the S2k a year before it was released, they'd have all kinds of new secrects, hell they might even try to clone it and release it before Honda.
